Let the Data flow (and London comes alive!)

23 03 2011

This video represents a 24 hour period in London’s public transport usage. Not the most interesting or pretty thing you might think but you’d be wrong (in my opinion anyway.)

The way the UCL’s Centre or Advanced Spatial Analysis have visualised the data has brought it to life, as if the transport network in London were a giant brain with neurons firing up through the morning rush hour to show a blaze of activity as the leviathan of a metropolis goes about it’s day.

To me this is what our Information Age (as opposed to Industrial or Atomic Age) is all about. The dark mysterious of our lives (and public transport) recorded, analysed and presented in a way that makes the mundane beautiful.

Still doesn’t explain why London Midland never have any drivers on a Monday night though,….
