From a report on Iran just before it all kicked off in 1979

THIS APPROACH UNDERLIES THE SOCALLED
“BAZAAR MENTALITY” SO COMMON AMONG PERSIANS, A
MIND-SET THAT OFTEN IGNORES LONGER TERM INTERESTS IN FAVOR OF IMMEDIATELY OBTAINABLE ADVANTAGES AND COUNTENANCES PRACTICES THAT ARE REGARDED AS UNETHICAL BY OTHER NORMS.

5. COUPLED WITH THESE PSYCHOLOGICAL LIMITATIONS IS A
GENERAL INCOMPREHENSION OF CASUALITY. ISLAM, WITH ITS EMPHASIS ON THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD, APPEARS TO ACCOUNT AT LEAST IN MAJOR PART FOR THIS PHENOMENON.

Now then, let me rephrase this….

THIS APPROACH UNDERLIES THE SOCALLED
“GOD FEARING CONSUMERIST MENTALITY” SO COMMON AMONG AMERICANS, A MIND-SET THAT OFTEN IGNORES LONGER TERM INTERESTS IN FAVOR OF IMMEDIATELY OBTAINABLE ADVANTAGES AND COUNTENANCES PRACTICES THAT ARE REGARDED AS UNETHICAL BY OTHER
NORMS.

5. COUPLED WITH THESE PSYCHOLOGICAL LIMITATIONS IS A
GENERAL INCOMPREHENSION OF CASUALITY. CHRISTIANITY, WITH ITS
EMPHASIS ON THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD, APPEARS TO ACCOUNT
AT LEAST IN MAJOR PART FOR THIS PHENOMENON.

There, that makes more sense now.

A new home for Lazarou?

From wikileaks:

Gadzhi’s Kaspiysk summer house is an enormous structure on the shore of the Caspian, essentially a hugecircular reception room — much like a large restaurant –attached to a 40-meter high green airport tower on columns, accessible only by elevator, with a couple of bedrooms, a reception room, and a grotto whose glass floor was the roof of a huge fish tank. The heavily guarded compound also boasts a second house, out buildings, a tennis court, and two piers out into the Caspian, one rigged with block and tacklefor launching jet skis.

……now that’s the sort of place I could live in!

As I leave London for the “City of the Future”

26 11 2010

….I have as a soundtrack Muse’s emotive EP “Exogenesis.” An orchestral lament on a dying world, choking on it’s ape like inhabitants greed and failure of idealism. An old and tired planet where dreams are replaced by raw and venal “pragmatism.”
Where the young are fed into a meat grinder of crippling debt and trampled under the hooves of Orwellian Police Centaurs should they strive for something different, something better.

The SAD is kicking in real bad these days, so here is what it feels like in prose….

5 11 2010

Sullen faces half lit by the  flood-lights shining through the spittle of the night rain. No longer dignified with labels like “employed”, “taxpayer”,”British” or “middle class” they were now no more than refugees.

Like the six billion other people whom deep down they used to feel they were better than ,they now queued in the cold and wet outside oppressive metal fencing and CCTV. Their material possessions, for which they had sacrificed so much in their past lives to obtain were clutched to them as totem of a bygone age.
Naturally some were ahead of the Game, they lived beyond the fencing and in little pockets of luxury around the world, guarded by men and machine so as to keep out the slowly starving hordes of the unlucky. The losers, the 95% of people who never stood a chance in that ridiculous game but were still expected to play now wandered the land bemused, hungry and frightened going where they were told to go and still doing what was expected of them by the victors.

Had they not already become a broken people, had any kind of fight in them sapped by decades of toil for pennies then  the dejected masses would be tearing down those fences, smashing those cameras, overpowering the guards and outwitting the machine sentries to reclaim their dignity and Humanity.

Instead they queued and complained, like they always did.
